Location Scout – Cape Spear
I’ve already explained that the opening scene from Whitecoat was inspired by a place called Green Gardens, in Gros Morne National Park. However, given Lady Alex’s penchant for taking long swims around the island of Newfoundland, it seems appropriate to highlight a stretch of coast with particular significance: Cape Spear is the eastern-most point in North America, and it goes without saying that Alex would pass by there whenever she happened to be swimming around Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula.
Of course, despite its beauty, Cape Spear is no place for any ordinary humans to attempt to swim, so please don’t try it. However, if you want to do some whale watching, or as a new ad from Newfoundland tourism points out, see the first sunrise in North America, this is your spot. Only a half hour drive out of St. John’s, it’s well worth a visit.
